Schools urged to ‘Stand 4 Féile’ this Friday as excitement grows for Jersey Day
Excitement is building across Cork and Kerry as over 100 schools have already pledged to bring colour to the classroom this Friday as part of the ‘Stand 4 Féíle’ Jersey Day.
Brookfield Leisure Centre, Cork and a number of SuperValu stores (Castletownbere, Kenmare, Bantry and Skibbereen) and Centra stores (Kenmare and Ballymakeera) have also announced their participation.
The event is being co-ordinated by a voluntary group of former Cork and Kerry GAA players, and the call to action invites students, teachers, staff, and the wider community to wear their favourite jersey and make a small donation to support the ‘Stand 4 Féile’ fundraising initiative. Féile O’Sullivan is recovering following a life changing accident on her family farm in Allihies, West Cork last July.
Funds raised on the Jersey Day will provide essential rehabilitation support and future care for Féile.
Féile’s mother, Maureen O’Sullivan, expressed her gratitude to the schools who have registered for the ‘Stand 4 Féíle’ Jersey Day so far, and is reminding others that there is still time to sign up.
“Féile and our family have been amazed by the community support shown to us since her accident last July, and leading up to this Friday’s ‘Stand 4 Féile’ Jersey Day. We’re very grateful to all the schools who’ve signed up to take part so far, and we’re urging every school across Cork and Kerry to join in on the fun and register to take part this Friday to support Féile’s recovery.”
While the ‘Stand 4 Féile’ Jersey Day is primarily aimed at schools in Cork and Kerry, everyone throughout the country is welcome to join in, with schools, clubs, colleges and workplaces encouraged to participate and support Féile’s continued recovery.
Schools are encouraged to capture the colour and energy of the day and share their photos and videos using #Stand4Féile on social media to help spread awareness and amplify the messages of support.
As an added incentive, all participating schools will enter a draw to win a brand-new set of jerseys. In total, four primary schools (two in Cork and two in Kerry) and four secondary schools (two in Cork and two in Kerry) will benefit from the generous gesture by O’Neills Sports. Make sure your school is registered to take part by signing up at www.gaacork.ie/stand4feile.
