Teamwork founders Peter Coppinger And Daniel Mackey named as Cork Persons’ Of The Month

Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey, the founders of one of Cork’s biggest software development firms, Teamwork, have been named Cork Persons of the Month for November, to mark their contribution to business growth in Cork.

In 1999, Peter and Daniel began a web development business. They soon realised that they needed an efficient project management programme. Having tested programmes available from the market leaders at that time, they decided to design their own business management software apps, which enable teams to work across projects efficiently, providing insight into how projects are being delivered, etc. Working on their own software programmes highlighted a market need which they decided to actively target.

In 2007, Peter and Daniel’s company became Teamwork and as word of this new software spread, the company’s client portfolio began to grow. New clients including Disney, Netflix, PayPal, eBay and Spotify came on board allowing the business to expand. Currently, Teamwork provides a suite of business management products helping companies to increase their overall efficiency. With over €20 million in sales, Teamwork is one of Cork’s largest technology firms. The company employs over 200 people in the Cork area, with headquarters in Blackpool, and six offices around the world servicing more than 24,000 clients. In 2018, Daniel and Peter were named the International and Overall EY Entrepreneurs of the Year for Ireland to mark their incredible business performance over the last 20 years.

As well as creating employment opportunities within the technology sector in Cork, Peter and Daniel promote Cork as a centre for business in Ireland. They founded escapetocork.ie, a website to highlight Cork as a place for doing business outside of Dublin. This website highlights how appealing Cork is, both for people seeking work opportunities, as well as for companies looking to invest in Ireland.

Speaking about their recent award, Peter Coppinger said, “Having watched a lot of our friends leave Cork in search of employment when we were up and coming developers, its vitally important to us that opportunities are available in Cork for people who wish to pursue a career in this sector. Teamwork has allowed us to provide these opportunities, and the diverse talent pool that Cork provides continues to impress us.”

Commenting on their success, awards organiser Manus O’Callaghan noted, “Technology is the future, and having brilliant minds such as Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey bringing business to Cork provides a huge boost to the local economy, whilst propelling Cork onto the world stage as a technological hub. As Peter himself said recently “we’ve come a long way from guys scraping a living making websites”. They certainly have.”

Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey will now go forward along with the other monthly winners for possible selection as the Cork Person of the Year 2019 at a gala awards lunch, which will be held in Rochestown Park Hotel in January 2020.
