Undoubtedly one of the highlights of the calendar for both Cork Chamber and the Marketing Institute Ireland (MII) is the annual Christmas lunch which took place on Friday, December 1st at the wonderful Fota Island Resort.

Almost 350 people from businesses across the city and county converged on the five-star resort and were treated to a mulled wine reception before the event officially kicked off. Members of both the MII and Cork Chamber mingled and networked before they were led into the magnificent Smith Barry Suite.

The four-course meal was a real festive feast and got attendees in the mood for the guest speaker, comedian Oliver Callan. The theme of the speeches accentuated the positives about Cork with Cork Chamber President Bill O’Connell saying that business sentiment in Cork has increased over the last 12 months with confidence returning to the business community in the city and county. With recent developments announced for Horgan’s Quay and Albert Quay to complement new projects in the city like the Capitol Cineplex and the newly developed Páirc Uí Chaoimh, there is strong evidence that the city is returning to some level of prosperity. Hopefully this is the beginning of an exciting stage of development in Cork that will see the city and county act as a counterweight to Dublin.

MII Chairperson Maressa Mills spoke about the exciting calendar of events the institute has planned for Cork in 2018 with an interesting list of guest speakers from BMW and Universal Pictures. Click HERE to find out more about the events.

Guest speaker Oliver Callan, comedian and satirist, had ample material to work with following a week of Brexit drama, culminating in an agreement over the Irish border question.

He hilariously and seamlessly went from An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to former Taoiseach Enda Kenny to President Michael D Higgins with many in between.

The day was rounded off with a charity raffle, 25 prizes were up for grabs which was very well supported by all attendees. Three Cork Chamber members’ charities were then chosen to receive the proceeds of the draw.

The highly successful dinner closed out a great year for the Chamber with lots to look forward to in 2018!
