New year’s resolutions for professionals and their businesses in 2018
As we begin 2018, we are inundated with new year’s resolutions tips and advice relating to our personal lives, such as how to save more money, lose the extra pounds from Christmas, join a gym and so on. We rarely, if ever, see articles in this context for our professional lives and I thought that it was time for a business-related resolutions article.
1. Exercise self praise – promote your own business
We are all so busy providing services to existing clients that we sometimes forget to focus on our own businesses in terms of publicity. Regular, consistent promotion is a must for brand awareness, profile building and attracting new clients. You may decide to start a blog, send an ezine to contacts, update your website more regularly or become more active on social media. All of this activity will increase visibility for you and your business.
2. Be more sociable – join a networking group
How sociable is your business? Do you or your colleagues regularly attend networking or business events? They are a great way to build relationships with other professionals in your area. Business events also provide the opportunity to raise the profile of your business as, more often than not, a press photographer will be present taking photographs for media.
3. Get that feel-good factor – support a worthy cause
By supporting a charity or voluntary organisation a business can benefit from boosted morale among the team as well as the obvious advantage of helping a worthy cause. If you are running an event having it in aid of a local cause could benefit both the charity and your business in terms of CSR advantages.
4. Sing your praises – engage with media
We often notice that businesses overlook potential media coverage opportunities. Through events covering topical areas of discussion or something as simple as a new team member joining your company, you could garner media attention for you and your business. Don’t be camera or media shy!
In 2017, AM O’Sullivan PR increased its online presence and digital footprint by launching a new website and ezine, enhanced by existing Twitter and LinkedIn profiles. As a team, we regularly attend PRII, Cork Chamber, Network Cork or Marketing Institute of Ireland events and love meeting existing and new contacts. We regularly provide PR and media relations services to clients be it by issuing an appointment notice about a new team member or a press release and photographs from an event or announcement. We look forward to interacting with you during 2018 – both offline and online – and helping you to achieve your new year’s resolutions.
