Positive vibes for 2018 at first Network Cork event of the year
Last night, my colleague Brenda Murphy and I attended the first Network Cork event of the year entitled Ready, Set, Soar at Cork International Hotel. The inspiring guest speakers were Eric Fitzpatrick, keynote speaker, trainer and coach and Barbara Nugent, emotional intelligence specialist and executive coach at Transilient Coaching. The speakers advised on setting achievable goals, effectively managing your time and bringing your best self to 2018.
After a warm and informative welcome from 2018 Network Cork president Karen Fleming, Eric Fitzpatrick spoke about his ability to dramatically improve sales for businesses. He spoke about marginal gains and the impact that making small changes can make overall. He challenged the 100-strong audience at the event to ask ourselves three key questions:
- What am I doing that I should keep doing?
- What am I doing that I should stop doing?
- What am I not doing that I should be doing?
Barbara Nugent spoke to the Network Cork audience about the importance of developing self-awareness and tuning into what’s happening with you. She also advised on setting goals and making new habits saying that you can’t extinguish a bad habit, you can only change it. Rethinking the concept of time was also a feature of Barbara’s discussion and she reminded everyone that there are 168 hours in a week, which we should value and spend wisely. Interestingly, when covering focus and distraction, she said that it takes us 20 minutes to refocus after being distracted.
Network Cork is a branch of Network Ireland, the organisation for women in business, the professions and the arts. The events take place monthly. As a former president of Network Limerick, I am delighted to now attend Network Cork events and to be part of a vibrant and supportive network for business women in the region.
